USPA NEWS - US Secretary John Kerry, 71, broke his right femur Sunday, May 31 in a bicycle accident on the French-Swiss border (US State Department). He is be back to Boston today for treatment at Massachusetts Hospital."Kerry met yesterday, Javad Zarif Iranian's Minister of Foreign Affairs on Iran's deal.

US SECRETARY KERRY IS BACK TO MASSACHUSETTS HOSPITAL AFTER HIS TRIP IN GENEVA, FOR HEALING HIS FEMUR------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Secretary Kerry broke his right femur in a bicycling accident this morning in Scionzier, (French-Swiss border) France," State Department spokesman John Kirby says. "The accident occurred in the morning near the town of Scionzier, Haute-Savoie, and Mr. Kerry was transported by helicopter to the University Hospital of Geneva. No other vehicle was involved in the accident. Aged 71, Mr. Kerry is a great sportsman who used to cycle alongside his many European tours."(Source AFP Genève et Le Monde). "Given the injury is near the site of his prior hip surgery, he will return to Boston today to seek treatment at Massachusetts General Hospital with his doctor who did the prior surgery. The Secretary is stable and never lost consciousness, his injury is not life-threatening, and he is expected to make a full recovery," he said. Kerry has called off the rest of his four-nation diplomatic trip. A physician and a paramedic were on the scene as part of Kerry's motorcade, and the secretary of state was transported by helicopter to Geneva's main hospital, where he was examined. Secretary Kerry is in good spirits and is grateful to the French and Swiss authorities, doctors, and nurses who assisted him after the accident. (Source US State Department).------- The Secretary traveled later that day to Geneva, Switzerland, and met with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on May 30 as part of the ongoing EU-coordinated P5+1 nuclear negotiations for sealing by the end of June a historic agreement on Tehran's nuclear program. Secretary Kerry is on travel to Geneva, Switzerland. He is accompanied by U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz, Under Secretary for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman, National Security Council Senior Director for Iran, Iraq, and the Gulf States Robert Malley, Deputy Chief of Staff Tom Sullivan, Spokesperson John Kirby, and Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf. The Secretary of State, provided on his agenda, to travel to Madrid in late afternoon. After the Spanish capital, John Kerry was expected in Paris Monday night to a meeting on Tuesday of the international coalition against the Islamic state group. PRINCIPAL FOCUS OF THE PLANNED MEETINGS IN PARIS FROM 1 TO 3 JUNE----------------------------------------- Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Richard Stengel will travel to Paris, France from June 1 ““ June 3. He will be accompanied by Assistant Secretary for Educational and Cultural Affairs Evan Ryan. A principal focus of their meetings in Paris will be discussions with international partners on the trafficking of looted antiquities. While in Paris, they will meet at UNESCO with Director-General Irina Bokova and participate in a roundtable with stakeholders to discuss measures that the international community can take to cut off trafficking in antiquities, especially from Iraq and Syria. Later, they participate in a press conference hosted by the International Council of Museums at the Louvre to announce the release of an updated Emergency Red List of Iraqi Cultural Objects at Risk, funded by the State Department. The Red List is designed to promote greater awareness for global law enforcement officials and for members of the trade and collecting communities about the types of objects subject to looting and trafficking. The Red List serves as an important tool in the recovery and return of archaeological objects to their country of origin.------------------------------------------------------------------- While in Paris, Under Secretary Stengel will meet with senior Coalition partners engaged in the Global Counter-ISIL Coalition working group on communications.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Secretary very much regrets not being able to visit Spain to meet with one of our close allies for discussions on a range of issues, as well as being unable to attend the counter-ISIL coalition ministerial meeting on Tuesday in Paris in person.
