USPA NEWS - In April 2014, the European Union had over five million young people under 25 unemployed. The European Commission today launched the European skills passport in Catering, which aims to facilitate contacts between job seekers and employers in the hospitality industry and tourism in Europe.
A study on a European scale published in late 2013 revealed that the hospitality industry played a major role in the fight against youth unemployment and that it was essential to employment and growth, but also to the health of other sectors.
These results are supported by statistics on the labor market indicate that between 2000 and 2010 2.5 million jobs were created in the hospitality sector, which represents an increase of 2.9% year figure compares with an average overall increase of 0.7%.
The European Commission today launched the European skills passport in Catering, which aims to facilitate contacts between job seekers and employers in the hospitality industry and tourism in Europe. Intended to encourage recruitment in the hospitality sector, passport must enable employers and workers to overcome language barriers and give the first opportunity to compare the skills of the latter. It is located on the European Mobility Portal Employment Services (EURES) and is available in all official languages of the European Union. Its scope will be expanded to other areas later.

To promote the launch of the Skills Passport, the European Commission, HOTREC EFFAT EURES and organize the 23 to 27 June 2014, a thematic week on European skills passport in hotels and restaurants. The campaign will run on the accounts of social media partner and associate job seekers and employers in the hospitality and tourism across Europe, who will present the features of the tool. The skills passport is an initiative of the European Commission conducted in association with the organizations of workers and employers in the hospitality industry (HOTREC) and the European Federation of Food, Agriculture and tourism (EFFAT). The skills passport allows an adjunct to conventional CV, targeting the languages of jobseekers in the field of hospitality, and reaching potential employers offers. The idea of a passport encourages mobility within the European space to boost the labor market. This initiative evolving is allowed to develop in other areas.
