This alert is to be taken very seriously, as this had not happened since 1947 and 2006 !------------------------------------------------- A snow alert of emergency has been declared by the authorities of the city of New York and prohibits traffic beyond 23h, under penalty of a fine of $ 300.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The metro is closed at night. Airline companies at the New York airports already cancel thousands of flights.----------------------- New York Mayor Bill de Blasio warned residents to prepare for as much as three feet (91 centimeters) of snow as an impending storm threatens to be the biggest in the city´s history. (Source: Bloomberg). A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities will lead to whiteout conditions...making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If you must travel... have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded...stay with your vehicle. All unnecessary travel is discouraged beginning Monday afternoon...to allow people already on the Road to safely reach their destinations before the heavy snow begins...and to allow snow removal equipment to begin to clear roads.
