Lake George Wildfire Burning Out Of Control

The Lake George wildfire continues to rage out of control, currently spanning approximately 290 hectares. A joint effort between Nova Scotia Emergency Management and local fire services is focused on safeguarding structures. As of now, there are no reports of damage. Further evacuation directives have been issued by Kings County officials.
The scene consists of 23 DNR personnel and 20 local firefighters, supplemented by 4 NWT planes, 1 DNR, and 2 contracted helicopters, and 18 pieces of heavy equipment dedicated to building fire breaks.
As of 10:00, The fire continues to spread, remaining uncontrolled. Smoke is encroaching upon southwestern Nova Scotia and the South Shore, with expectations that this trend will continue into tomorrow. The focus today is on establishing fire breaks utilizing heavy machinery, with air support protecting structures and prioritizing crew safety while operating machinery, all aimed at slowing the fire's propagation. Unfortunately, today's weather conditions are not advantageous.
The fire is presently exhibiting high levels of activity, generating substantial heat and producing dense smoke this morning. For safety purposes, ground crews are being repositioned to the north side of Aylesford Road, as the south side is currently active.
The latest fire size estimate is 290 hectares, with ongoing evacuations and road closures. Weather conditions later today are expected to facilitate significant fire activity and further spread.
**NEW EVACUATION ORDER** AYLESFORD LAKE: Residents are required to IMMEDIATELY EVACUATE due to the wildfire threat. This Mandatory Evacuation Order now encompasses, in addition to previously evacuated areas, Aylesford Road from (and including) Fox Mountain Campground to Civic 3847 Aylesford Road, all residences on Spruce Drive, Birch Lane, and Blue Lane, as well as all residences between 5 North River Road and 1493 North River Road.
When evacuating, residents are advised to bring essential items, including pets, vital documents, medications, food, and emergency supplies. An emergency Reception Centre has been set up at the Louis Millett Centre in New Minas. Upon arrival, all evacuees are required to register at the Reception Centre.
A 24/7 shelter with overnight accommodations is open at Louis Millett Community Complex, 9489 Commercial Street, New Minas. Please register at the shelter, or call 902-890-2042 for more information. This phone number has changed from the one originally posted Monday.
